Whiskey drinker

Image
I 'm do excited for this short story. I've been wanting to share it with all of you for the past two weeks, but it wasn't ready two weeks ago.   It was inspired by all the familys that deal with alcohol addiction in their homes.  Whiskey Drinker   a short story by Evelyn Creon Like a ship sinking into a stormy sea, an empty bottle fell from his hands hitting the concrete floor with a crash ,  and shattering into a thousand pieces. He sat there half lying, half sitting in  is chair. The chair was using all its strength trying not to buckle beneath my father's weight. He was drunk. The smell of whiskey was strong on his breath. I sighed, a deep long one, trying to hold back tears of aching pain that filled me at the sight of him. Again I had found him lost in drowning everything with a drink. Guilt filled me. I felt like I should have used softer words when I scolded him like a child. It was in times like  those , when my...

Dancing' in the kitchen

Image
Inspired by the endless dance parties my siblings, cousins, and I have in the kitchen when the parents are away.  Dancin' in the kitchen On a cold stary night, Not a care in the world, Cause we're doin' alright. we have dinner and drinks To last the whole night long; With the music playin' A good ol' fashion song. We got Apple pastries, We got gizzards galore! We've got huckleberries, steak an' some roasted corn. There's greens from the garden, Last year's squash from the field. Will fill our abdomens Before the next mornin' meal. Dancin' in the kitchen, Throughout this stary night Papa'll play the banjo Just a little up tight. Granny'll be out jigger That no one ever ever beats, A duet I will sing Like a champ on the streets. Mama will be dancin' With a slip and a dip, Aunt Diane will do dishes With an ol' swing of hips. Uncle Tony will sing Next to papa and me, While the little youngin...

Short Pollyanna Story

Image
This short story was originally a tiny tale I wrote. I added more detail to turn it into a more interesting story. Short Pollyanna Story "Pollyanna," cried her mother, "You were told you are not allowed to grab stuff out of your brother's hands." Pollyanna heard no more. She was racing up the stairs with her most prized teddy bear. Which she had just rescued from her younger brother James's little troublesome hands. Or at least that's how she looked at the situation. Her mother on the other hand saw her selfish daughter rip a teddy bear out of her younger brother's hands and leave him screaming at the top of his lungs.  “Pollyanna,” her mother yelled up the stairs, while trying to calm James down. “Get your little fanny down here right now and apologize to your brother.” Pollyanna, being not only a selfish little girl, also could be as stubborn as a mule. She called down to her mother, “I’m not going to apologize to James. He had h...

The Durian (short story)

Image
This story was inspired by my reaction to the durian fruit when I first was introduced to it. I am still not a big fan of the durian fruit but I don't mind eating it. I would prefer dried durian, just because it's durian flavor is not as strong.  The Durian  By Evelyn Creon  Dropping the last chunk of frozen fruit into the blender’s pitcher, I picked up the milk carton and was just about to drench the fruit with the sweet tasting liquid when I hear my mother’s voice from the next room over. “Don’t forget to put the durian in.” All the smiles of joy at the thought of getting away without putting the durian in the smoothie vanish, with those unpleasant words of my mothers. Then remembering the taste of the durian on my tongue the last time I tasted it. And recalling the unbearable smell of rotting flesh when we opened it, it was so bad that everyone had to leave the room.   Just the thought made my stomach turn, it was that BAD. The delicacy from India whe...

Billiard Players

Image
Billiard Players I'm told that my father was a billiard player. The best one in the town. But I have never seen him play in all. The years I've been around. The story goes he played like a wild cat. And won each and every game. He was so good that no one. dared steal his fame. When ever a stranger came to our town. A ruckus always began. The stranger then would invite my father. To come and play around. I was told, along came a gal; That no one in the town did know. She challenged him to a game of pool. And one the very first round. Now my father was no loser; So he bet with his life. He'd "Beat her before he died", he said. But not the way every one thought. He kicked up his heels, and exclaimed.  While the rest of the town was in shock. Well I guess I'm beat and so,  I'm forced to tie the knot.  Every person in town understood him now. The prophesy had came true.  The gal had come a...
