As Flawed As I

She was afraid to expose herself,

And the shame she faced.  

Even though I declared  

My unconditional love for her.

She clung to the fear

That she was inadequate

To be loved.

At least not with the conflict

with which she struggled. 

I patiently waited for her to express

Her deepest regret, every day.

Once she let me in, I realized that

This woman I fell for 

was just as flawed as I.
